Main Presentation
This month we tried the Webinar format with Doug Hennig. The ability to have such a great speaker without the expense of travel worked out extremely well! If any of you would like Doug’s Whitepaper, please email me and I will send out a zip file to you.
The meat of the session was using (and deploying) FoxPro apps in Windows Vista.
One “nugget” from the meeting: In the current Security set up for Windows XP, most users run as administrators because it’s too hard not to. When installing applications, certain applications can’t launch without Administrator rights. But if you ran as administrator, Malware was able to run on your computer too since it now had privileges to install. Vista makes it easier to run as a standard user through user access control. User access control before admin meant single security token with the admin privileges. In vista there are split token assigns. Desktop token and normally you are running with the standard user token. When a task with the admin tasks is used, then you are asked if you meant to run that program, then the admin token will prompt you if you meant to then you run it. Look for the multicolored shield will prompt you. (vista adds the shield to the icon)

Our Next Meeting is September 8, 2007 from 10am-12pm. The topic and speaker are to be determined. I look forward to seeing all of you again.
