The 2002 Visual FoxPro DevCon is just around the
corner -- September 29 - October 2 -- in Ft. Lauderdale. Sessions will
be including information on the new features in VFP 8, and although I can't
find official confirmation on this, the "word on the street" is that
attendees will receive a beta copy of VFP 8. There's still time to sign
up, if you haven't already. Check it out at http://www.advisor.com/foxprodevcon.
For those with a tighter budget, the Great Lakes Great Database Workshop (GLGDW, a.k.a. Whilfest) is not too far off, either. I've heard that, as has been his custom, Whil will be extending the early registration date to August 30. Don't miss this second chance to register early! Yes, that really is Drew Speedie!
We were thrilled to have Drew at our "special" August meeting.
Thanks to everyone who gave up a nice summer Saturday to attend our special August meeting. Drew Speedie gave us an impressive and in-depth look at the Visual Maxframe Professional framework. If you've never used a commercial framework, Drew demonstrated plenty of reasons to get one. For those who are using a different framework, he showed us what differentiates Visual Maxframe. Afterward, Drew shared a few of the newer additions to his VFP Tips and Tricks presentation, which has become a regular feature of recent FoxPro conferences. If the subject matter wasn't enough to keep you interested, Drew kept things moving with a number of humorous anecdotes scattered throughout the presentation.
The September GRAFUG meeting will be held Saturday,
September 14, 2002. The meeting will start at 11:00 am and last about 2
hours. To make up for a segment that has been neglected in recent
months, this month's topic will be "Back to Cool (Tools)" (bad pun
intended <g>). If there are any cool tools that you've come across
that proved helpful for your development, bring them along and share them with
us. It doesn't have to be something written in or specifically for
FoxPro. I plan to demonstrate two "virtual machine" products
that I became aware of recently: VMware Workstation and Connectix Virtual PC.
Advance Notice: For October, we are tentatively planning to discuss VFP 8. Although it should still be in beta at that time, it should be "unveiled" by then, so that we can discuss all the awesome new features.
As always, if there's anything that you'd be willing to present, or there's a topic that you would really like to cover at a future meeting, please send me an email and let me know.
